Srinagar, May 08 (Scoop News) –When the doctors of Government Medical College Hostel, Bemina came to know that SMC would start the sterilisation of stray dogs they made a fervent request to Commissioner SMC, Dr GN Qasba to lift a female dog from their hostel campus for conducting the Animal Birth Control (ABC). This female dog had been nick-named “Chamak Chalo” by Bano Begum a domestic servant of one doctor residing in the hostel. She had given birth to two puppies but both the puppies had died during birth. The dog wouldn’t allow anyone to come near to take away the dead puppies. She would bark and jump at all passersby and even scare away those people who had been feeding her with food, love and affection. Promptly, Dr. Qasba sent his dog squad and they lifted the dog and her dead puppies and took her to the Animal Sterilisation Centre at Shuhama. The doctor’s team had just returned from training from Jaipur and “Chamak Chaloo” got the honour of being the first female dog in J&K to be sterilised by the vets. The veterinarian doctor’s team headed by Dr Sajad Ahmed performed the surgery successfully and Chamak Cahloo returned back today, with a notched ear to the Medical College Hostel Bemina. Seeing her back, the doctors and hostellers welcomed her with bread and food.
Chamak Chaloo is now jumping around with joy on returning to her “home” and chases other stray dogs, who had temporarily tried to take her place. Chamak Chaloo can now boast of being the first sterilised female dog in the Valley. The other stray dogs must be hoping that Qasba Sahib would set an eye on them and send his team and catch them, so that they too get a chance to be taken to Shuhama for ABC and notch on their ear.
