Effective immediately, users will need to register with Disqus in order to comment on GroundReport articles. While our editorial team would prefer to allow readers to post anonymously, we have had several problems with posters abusing this freedom by posing as other GroundReport users to post inflammatory comments. We cannot allow members of our community to be embarrassed by comments made in their name by posters who are so unwilling to own their opinions that they would rather attribute them to an unsuspecting party.
From now on, when you attempt to post a comment on a GroundReport article, you will be asked to login to Disqus. If you do not currently have a Disqus ID, you can register as a Disqus user at that time without leaving the article page. All that is required to register is entry of a username, password and email. Only your chosen username will be visible to readers; your email address remains private.
We have also received questions about why comments made on articles do not always appear immediately. In order to avoid SPAM or inappropriate content, any comments that include URLs are automatically sent to moderation for editorial approval. Additionally, users can flag any comments that include offensive content such as, anything pornographic or overtly sexual, obscene, hateful in nature, or unnecessarily strong language. Flagged comments are immediately removed and sent to moderation for editorial review.
