The spirit -summoning game known as ‘Charlie Charlie’ or the CharlieCharlieChallenge is in the news again. The game went viral after terrifying incidences in the Dominican Republic involving children who were playing the game began to freak out and has since been viewed millions of times online.
Literally there are tens of thousands of teens an pre teens have uploaded the videos – from the UK to the United States, Sweden and Singapore – in which they ask, ‘Charlie, Charlie, are you there?’ and then flee in terror when the pencil appears to move by itself. The game is simple enough.
Players balance on pencil perpendicularly over another. Both pencils sit on top of a piece of paper which is divided into four quarters.
Two of these quadrants have ‘yes’ written on them, and the other two ‘no’. Players then dare the spirit Charlie to play with them by asking: ‘Charlie, Charlie, are you there?’
The top pencil will then supposedly spin until it points to ‘yes’ – although even if it lands on ‘no’, its movement still suggests the presence of a paranormal being. If and when it moves, the players can ask Charlie other yes an no questions and wait for the pencil to move again. This has some people asking is Charlie Charlie the new Quija. All in all “Charlie Charlie” is a dark game that entails asking a question then summoning this Charlie spirit who is some sort of a demon.
Since it first went viral earlier this year we have been tracking dozens of reports of mysterious deaths associated with people who play the spirit summoning game.
