New England Revolution defender Chase Hilgenbrinck will retire from professional soccer to enter a seminary and become a Roman Catholic priest.
Chase Hilgenbrinck, 26, began his MLS career with the Colorado Rapids but it wasn’t until he joined the New England Revolution that he found himself on the field in an MLS game. His tenure as a professional player was brief, but in a statement from the Revolution, Hilgenbrinck needed to follow the path of God.
“It’s not that I’m ready to leave soccer. I still have a great passion for the game,” Chase Hilgenbrinck said. “I wouldn’t leave the game for just any other job. I’m moving on for the Lord. I want to do the will of the Lord, I want to do what he wants for me, not what I want to do for myself."
Hilgenbrinck will enter a seminary in Maryland where he will spend the next six years studying morality and philosophy on his way to becoming a Catholic priest.
