The Word cheetah is came from a Sanskrit word which means variegated body.
It is considered as the lands fastest animal. It has a speed of 112 to 120 kilometers per hour (70 to 75 mph). It can also accelerate from 0 to 103 kilometers per hour, said to be faster than most of the super cars.
Adult Cheetah usually weighs about 36 to 65 kg (79 to 140lb.) and its total body length varies from 115 to 135 cm (45 to 53) in.). The tail alone can be measured for up to 84 cm (33 in.)
The cheetah stand for about 67 to 94 cm (26 to 37 in) in height, measured from feet to shoulder. The male cheetah’s are larger the female cheetah’s but the difference is only slight, the reason why it is difficult to determine cheetah’s sex identity basing only the size of their body.
In terms of maturity, the female cheetah is considered mature when the animal reaches twenty to twenty four months. The males reach the maturity in their twelve months. Usually Cheetah mate when they reach three years of age and the mating usually occur throughout the entire year.
Cheetahs are known to have a difficulty in breeding in the captive condition, they are widely hunted for there fur. Currently, cheetahs are decreasing in numbers because they are continuously loosing their habitat as well as their prey because of several circumstances.
The female Cheetahs can give birth to nine cubs. These cubs will leave their mother when they reach thirteen to twenty months after their birth.
The Cheetah is a carnivore animal usually feed with mammals not over than 40 kilograms or 88 pounds. Their diet is actually dependent of the availability of the mammals in the environment in which they lives.
The Cheetahs adopt certain vocalizations as one form of their communication. Chirping means that a cheetah is finding another cheetah. It is also used when a mother cheetah tries to look for her cubs. Stuttering or Churring is done when they have social meeting or as a form of invitation to another cheetah, or showing an expression of interest. Glowing accompanied with hissing and spitting is shown by cheetahs in times of annoyance or in danger. Yowling is expressed by cheetah when the danger is worsened and Purring usually shown by Cheetah when it is content.
Some reports said that there are several geographically isolated populations of cheetahs, throughout the world. Most of these places can be found in Africa and Southwestern Asia.
