Celebrities lead a Bike Rally as part of the Global Healthcity’s Stayin’ Alive, a campaign for safer roads & prevention of head injuries
· Campaign launched in association with Chennai City Traffic Police
· Stayin’ Alive Bike Rally flagged off by Thiru. T.K.M. Chinnayya, Hon’ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, and the rally began from Ascendas Junction, OMR Road, culminating at the Global Health City.
· Celebrities including Actor Abbas, Vijay Sethupathi, J. K Tyre National Racing Champion for 2012, Feroze Khan, Director S. J Surya, Mr. M. Sivaramakrishnan, Managing Director, UCAL Group, Ace comedian Bosskey, , Saravanan Meenakshi – Senthil, & R J Ajay actively participated in the rally making it a star studded event.
· The programme laid emphasis on safe riding, wearing helmets and also the ill & dangerous effects of driving under the influence of alcohol.
March 17, 2013, Chennai, India: Global Healthcity, Chennai, on the occasion of World Head Injury Awareness Day that is on March 20, launches Stayin’ Alive, an innovative campaign to alert people of Chennai on the need for Safe Roads and prevention of head injuries. The campaign acquires specific significance especially in India, which registers the largest annual incidences of head injuries. Every day, 500,000 people are reported to suffer a head injury in some form or the other, primarily due to road traffic accidents and it is the sixth most common cause of death, in the country.
Global Health City on this occasion aims to make a difference and create awareness about road safety and head injury. The bike rally was flagged off at Ascendas Junction by Thiru. T.K.M. Chinnayya, Hon’ble Minister for Animal Husbandry, Govt of Tamil Nadu which culminated at Global Health City. The other dignitaries who attended the awareness campaign include: Thiru. T.K.M. World Head Injury Awareness Day campaign at Global Health City aims to promote and increase the awareness on head injuries and its impact on one’s personal life. The awareness campaign highlighted some serious complication of head injury like memory loss, paralysis, Epilepsy, nerve damage, language disorders & emotional disturbances which will have lasting impact on the society.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. K. Sridhar, Head Department of Neuro and Spine Surgery said “"Head injuries are perhaps the only man made preventable disaster. Once a road accident happens it is of paramount importance that the injured reaches the hospital as soon as possible so that there is no delay in administering the necessary medical aid to the person. The "golden hour" if missed can mean the life of the injured or at the least permanent disability. Hospitals, doctors and para medical staff and the public must be aware of the importance of the Golden hour following a head injury"
