Celebrating the festival of Chhat devotees, thronged to riverbanks and ponds Tuesday evening worshiping the setting sun in the Terai and some other regions including the Kathmandu Valley on November 4, 2008.
Chhath is a major festival celebrated in the Terai region of Nepal. During the festival the women of the family fast for 36-hours.
The chhath was celebrated in Thapathali, Ranipokhari, Guheshwori, Manahara, Kuleshwor Mahadev, Naxal Nagpokhari, Chiplekhola at Nagdhunga, and Balaju in the Valley.
Addressing the festival President Dr Ram Baran Yadav issued a special message on the occasion of Chhath festival and called on all to maintain national unity, religious harmony, and brotherhood and to respect socio-cultural sentiment.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal also congratulated the people and expressed his belief that the religious tolerance existing among the people of different religions and communities will continue and prosper further.
