Jammu,March 09 (Scoop News) – The Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Medical Education and Technical Education, Prof. R. S. Chib, has said that the government was keen to provide every facility for the potential sportsmen of the state to enable them to compete at national and international levels.
He said the state has no dearth of talent but there was a need to explore the same in a big way
The Minister was speaking after declaring open the 38th Inter Collegiate Annual Athletic Meet-2010-11 at
Urging upon the youth to evince tremendous interest in sports activities, besides academic education, the Minister said that apart from providing quality education to the students, coalition government was committed to provide all facilities to the youth required for boosting the sports activities in the State.
Listing various schemes initiated by the government for promotion of sports, he said the students should take part in the co-curricular activities, side by side academics for their overall personality development.
Prof. Chib said that the Government is spending Rs 1 crore for developing sports infrastructure which include construction of sports related buildings, additional rooms and dormitories for visitors on Jammu University Campus.
Lauding the role of
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Jammu University Prof Varun Sahni gave resume of the sports activities carried out by University during last year. He said that the University has produced national champions in all most all games and the efforts are on to further promote the sports culture so that more and more athletes from Jammu and Kashmir participate in national level events.
Prominent among others present on the occasion, include Director Sports and Physical Education Prof. Dhian Singh Bhau, Professors and Dean of various varsity faculties, non teaching staff and a number of athletes.
