Chib discusses health scenario with Civil Society

Srinagar,July 31(Scoop News) – Minister of Youth Sports Services, Technical Education and Medical Education R S Chib today chaired a meeting with Civil Society Groups to discuss various issues related to functioning of Associated Hospital of GMC Srinagar. M K Dwivedi, IAS, Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Principal, GMC Srinagar and other senior official of the department were also present. In a very fruitful discussion several progressive suggestions were given by the representatives of the civil society.

The setting up of the 200 bedded children hospital at Bemina was discussed. It was informed by the Secretary that the cost estimation and project report of the hospital was under process and accordingly the matter shall be taken up for funding and Administration Approval. The Minister desired that the project should take off in ground in two months time so that along with maternity Hospital project this children’s hospital project could also be taken up for execution at the earliest.

It was also discussed that the extension of LD Hospital is targeted to be completed in October- November this year. The civil Society members appreciated the improved pace of working in the project and hoped that the new block shall be made fully functional in stipulated time frame.

Implementation of drug policy was discussed and it was appreciated that the drugs are now being procured as per new drug policy. It was also informed that the department is working on setting up generic drug stores in the state. The civil society members suggested strengthening of Drug Control department and also setting up of compact drug testing facilities in GMC. It was decided to explore the feasibility of setting up of such a facility.

The civil society representatives appreciated the improvements made in functioning of the G B Pant Hospital and suggested setting up of a microbiology lab in the hospital at the earliest. It was also suggested to upgrade the pathology lab.

All members suggested that the leave system being availed by the staff in lieu of night duty needs to be reviewed to improve efficiency and productivity of the staff. The department agreed to review the system.

Detailed Discussions regarding revamping the security and access control system in the hospitals were also made and certain crucial decisions were taken.

Minister assured that the department is working round the clock to improve patient care in the Associated Hospitals of the state and all the suggestions of the civil society shall be considered for bring about further improvements in the functioning of the hospital.
