Chief Election Commissioner:The use of black money is rampant in Indian politics

Mr.Gopalsamy, the Chief Election Commissioner of India, in a recent press interview has openly come out about the role of black money in Indian politics.

According to him, the use of the black money, what we call the unaccounted money, is rampant in Indian politics.

He has made the above statement referring to the black money that has been widely used especially during the recently held Assembly Elections in Karnataka.

The statement made by the Chief Election Commissioner is very significant because it has emanated from the head of a constitutional body, the Election Commission and also the context in which he has made the statement.

As an Election Commissioner, though Mr.Gopalsamy might have rued over the role of black money, his powers are limited only to the extent of curbing them only in the course of the election. But even during the elections, our reckless politicians use the innumerable loopholes that remain unplugged wantonly, to go scot-free.

Timely action is required from the authorities concerned, especially from the executive in consultation with the Chief Election Commissioner to check the rampant use of black money, to lend some credibility to the Indian politics as well as the Indian democracy. Will they do it ?
