In a pathetic incident, a 12-year-old child maid named ‘Alo Sen’ was killed after being tortured by the family of a hosiery trader. Police arrested the trader Vijay Agarwal, his wife Manju, son Vishal and teenager daughter Preety from their Titagarh house near Calcutta.
In a fit of rage, the Agarwals assaulted the child (who hailed from a very poor family of Canning in South 24 Pgs District in West Bengal), on Thursday night,June 26, when she requested for a little more food while eating.
Realising that the girl had died, the nervous Agarwals kept the body in the house throughout Friday looking for an opportunity to dump the body. On Friday night they put the body in jute sack, kept the bag in the boot of a taxi, got down on foreshore road in Howrah and dumped the body on roadside, and returned home by another taxi, as per police sources.
The body was spotted by police petrol on Friday night on foreshore road near Burn Standard Company. The story of torture unfurled when, under sustained interrogation, Vijay and Manju broke down and confessed the torture.
People in the neighbourhoods told the police that Agarwals used to torture the poor girl almost everyday.
The father of the girl is a rickshaw puller in Howrah and had to employ her for abject poverty. He broke down while identifying the body of his daughter, cursing himself for employing her.
