PESHAWAR March 14 :- The three days polio vaccination campaign to be launched in the country from March 16 to 18 will not be extended to Swat, Chitral, Kurram, Bajaur and Mohmand Agency due to law and order situation.
This was said by an official of EPI NWFP while talking with newsmen during a press conference held here at Press Club on Saturday with regard with launching of polio vaccination campaign in the province and FATA.
The official, while requesting anonymity, informed that due to security concerns and poor law and order situation, polio teams would not visit these areas as a result of which children of these areas will be deprived of vaccine.
About Chitral district, the official informed that heavy snow fall has hampered access of teams to visit different areas and therefore the exercise would not be carried out in the district.
He also informed that last year about 0.7 million children were not administered polio drops due to same reason.
The official said last year about 118 cases of polio were reported in the country out of which 53 were in NWFP and FATA.
