Michael Rosen has recently expressed his criticisms towards J.K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter” book series. Ever since the first book of Harry Potter was released, the world was taken in by storm. Interestingly enough, Harry Potter, the main character, has a purple lightning bolt on his forehead. However, the bolt was not present in the movies. So far, the profits of Harry Potter are in the high nine-figure amounts.
Even more money was generated from the franchise in the form of movies, games, and other goodies. Harry Potter has been adapted into several movies and video games. There was even a trading card game based off of the Harry Potter movies. In short, the Harry Potter franchise has transformed into one massive cash crop within the last few years. The Harry Potter books have been on the New York Times best-sellers list numerous times.
It could be one of the most popular franchises across the world. However, not everybody is impressed with Harry Potter.
62-year-old Michael Rosen is one of the people far from impressed with Harry Potter. Rosen is a poet and the author of the children’s book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.” Rosen currently takes up the post as the fifth Children’s Laureate. His current position is to promote arts and literature for children.
To Rosen, Harry Potter is too boring for the children. He explains that the situations are too adult for the minds of children. In that regard, Rosen said that it would be difficult for children to deal with the themes of Harry Potter. Rosen said that he would not read a Harry Potter book to his children.
However, he did give credit to the franchise for getting kids to read. But, he expressed his concerns that J.K. Rowling’s works would overshadow other authors. That is his main concern.
In short, while Harry Potter has its successes, it has its criticisms in the world of children’s literature. Regardless of criticisms, the Harry Potter books are enjoyed by children of many ages across the world.
