Beijing, China (groundreport) – Following successful completion of the country’s first-ever spacewalk, Chinese astronauts returned to earth on Sunday.
China state broadcaster CCTV telecasted the Shenzhou 7 spaceship landing in China’s northern Inner Mongolia region at 5:37 p.m. Chinese time. Premier Wen Jiabao lauded mission control in Beijing.
”The astronauts feel very good,” mission commander Zhai Zhigang was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.
Each of the astronauts were presented with flowers.
Zhai told AP, ”It was a glorious mission, full of challenges with a successful end.” Adding, ”We feel proud of the motherland.”
The space walk was telecasted live on Saturday further invigorating China’s national pride a month after the Beijing Olympics.
