The arrest of Hu Jia, a Chinese web dissident who has blogged about AIDs and the forthcoming Summer Olympic Games, was placed under house arrest by the Chinese police. It’s good that his wife, who just delivered, was spared from the wrath.
With Hu’s arrest, it will be too far when the light of the freedom of expression will shine in the most populous countries on earth. It’s hard to fathom the depth as to why until now, even if China is experiencing economic growth, it hasn’t come to grips with realities.
Chinese government officials should realize that globalization is re-inventing everything. And there is no way you can’t do about it. The only difference is on the manner of acceptance. Internet is an integral part of the world’s technological development. It is sad to think that Chinese officials are dreaming that they can control cyberspace. If ever, China will be the first Asian country to do it. Doesn’t it sound impossible?
