Srinagar, December 16, (Scoop News)- In its true tradition of remembering the heroes and martyrs, the Army celebrated the 42nd Anniversary of its victory during the 1971 war with military customs and tradition. A solemn yet impressive ceremony was organised in Badami Bagh Cantonment which was attended by a large number of Army persons, besides Sh Shailendra Kumar, IAS, DC Srinagar and Sh PS Sandhu, IPS, DIG BSF. Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, GOC Chinar Corps paid obeisance to the martyrs by laying wreath at the war memorial in the Badami Bagh Cantonment.
16th of December is celebrated as ‘Vijay Diwas’ and commemorates Indian Army’s victory in the 1971 war. GOC Chinar Corps while speaking on the occasion recounted the sacrifices made and the tremendous achievements of the Chinar Corps during the conflict. He also congratulated all ranks including personnel of Jammu and Kashmir Police and other Para Military forces for putting in their best efforts to ensure peace in the Valley and exhorted them to continue to strive toward excellence. He also conveyed his deepest gratitude to the families of martyred soldiers, who gave the supreme sacrifice and laid down their lives for the integrity of the Nation.
As a true reflection to highest level of synergy existing between Army and other Security Forces, GOC Chinar Corps, as a gesture to recognise and appreciate personal professionalism, presented awards to two JKP, two CRPF and two BSF personnel besides other Army personnel. The felicitation ceremony was attended by all senior Army and police dignitaries.
