Christians in Tamil Nadu Province of India said that they are not interested in reservation made for them in jobs and education. Tamilnadu Government made 3.5% reservation for both Muslim and Christians.
According to them, this system hurts their interest instead of benefiting them.
According to Fr Chinadurai., this system is not beneficial for Christian community as they are doing better than other backward classes for 30% OBC reservation. As an educated community they are doing well but the reservation system restricts their job opportunities and admissions.
Citing an example he also mentioned that in the ongoing admission procedure of MBBS,their community got only 94 seats but if they are belonged to OBC then they got more than 300 seats.
Tourism minister Suresh Rajan took a delegation of Christian leaders to meet chief minister for canceling the reservation system introduced to this community.
This system introduced last year to the community.
The delegation includes Bishop of Kottar Rev Peter Remigius, State minorities commission chairman Fr Vincent Chinadurai all MLAs and MPs from Kanyakumari district.
Kanyakumari District has huge Christian population.
However, Chief Minister mentioned that he would refer the matter to the state backward commission. Justice M S Janaratham heads the commission, which had recommend such reservation at first place.
