I’d like to give you readers a follow-up about the shooting death of Country Artist Wayne Mills. A tasteofcountry.com has reported Chris Ferrell, the Nashville bar owner who is accused of shooting and killing Mills in the early morning hours of November 23, 2013 turned himself in Friday, December 6, 2013 to the police.
Ferrell and his lawyer deny that Ferrell is guilty. Ferrell is stating that the incident happened for the purpose of his own self-defense.
Mills’ shooting death has made national news. Ferrell and Mills were reportedly friends but they began arguing around 5 a.m., because Mills was smoking in a non-smoking area of the Pit and Barrel bar. There were “no” witnesses to the actual shooting, but the argument could be heard outside of the bar as well as the gunshot was heard too. The autopsy revealed that Mills had been shot in the back of his head.
The Tennessean reported Ferrell has faced violent charges in his past, and last summer, he was charged with a domestic assault after an alleged fight with a former girlfriend. This later charge was dismissed against Ferrell; and an interfering with an emergency call charge was also dropped, but a vandalism charge was bound over to a grand jury.
Mills was married and had a son named Jack. There is a memorial scheduled today, December 8, 2013, in Mills’ hometown of Arab, Ala. A memorial concert and benefit was held on Wednesday night at the Tin Roof in Nashville for the benefit of the singer’s family.
Blake Shelton, Jamey Johnson and ‘American Idol’ winner Taylor Hicks were among the stars that have played with Mills and his band, the Wayne Mills Band.
Our prayers and sympathy are with Mills’ immediate family and friends today as he goes to his final resting place.
