As a Christian, Have you ever wondered to yourself, what is meant to be a servant, for God, how is it possible for you to be in your service to God? To help us understand that we are to serve, Jesus offers us a reminder at KJV. LUKE: 22: 27; "For whether is greater he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat, but I am among you as he that serveth."
Jesus sees all believers as servants of our heavenly father. We all have specially chosen roles in our service but as far as Jesus is concerned, there is no "Free Ride". We were created for service, and since serving is our path, we must fully understand the key to servanthood.
As a servant of God, there is no task asked of us by Our Father, that we should consider meaningless or beneath us, as Jesus pointed out to His Apostles and to the pharisee, whose home he visited, when the woman bathed his feet with her tears, dried them with her hair, and annointed them with oil and fragrance, as was the custom of those days.
This story related by Jesus, reminds me of what I used to tell the employee trainees as I taught them how to work efficienty. I always told them, "I will never ask or assign you a task that I was not willing and able to do myself."
To truly be a servant of The Lord, we must see service as something Almighty God does through us, instead of something that we do for Him to please Him.
In other words Holy Spirit is the conductor of God’s Symphony Orchestra and angelic choir, and we are the instrument players or singers, being guided by God’s Holy Spirit. Therefore God through His Holy Spirit, assumes total full responsibility for enabling us to carry out the works assigned us by God. Many fail or even refuse to serve, because they do not understand this fundamental principle.
The Apostle Paul in his FIRST letter to the THESSALONIANS: 5: 24; KJV. reminds us "Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it." In other words God will never just leave us on our own to carryout His Will with only our human ability to fulfill it.
At the instant of our Salvation through Jesus, Holy Spirit takes up residence within us. This indwelling is for the purpose of enabling each new Christian, to be and do, all that God has planned and requires from us in our life of service to Him.
God is the one who has called upon us, asking us to serve Him, so He provides us with the desire and the ability to carry out His pleasures. It is through the understanding that our services brings pleasure to God, that we ourselves, find pleasure and happiness and joy. God knows that our service will be rewarding for us, and glorify Him, so He wants us to sucseed but by His measurement, and not necessarily by man’s expectations.
Jesus spells this out for us plain and simple at: KJV. JOHN: 14: 10-12, "Believest thou not that I am in the Father and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he does the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me for the very works sake. Verily, Verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me the works that I do, shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."
We can apply this thinking of service to God in our jobs at our workplace too. No matter who is the object of our service, we are actually serving God, as Paul reminds us in EPHESIANS: 6: 5, "Servants be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling in singleness of your heart as unto Christ."
In other words we are subject to our employer’s authority, and work as though we are actually serving Jesus, working obediently, reverently and energetically.
The one question we all as Christians must answer is: Will God find us willing and available to serve, to satisfy Him as well as meet the needs around us?
Until we fully surrender to the Lord and permit Him to work by the powers of The Holy Spirit through us to accomplish His purpose for our lives, we will miss out on all the blessings and deep satisfaction God desires for us to have.
God provides us with the talents, skills, knowledge, wealth, and wisdom, and will turn them into something magnificent. Will God find you willing and available to serve?
