It’s official; the pedophile suspect has been captured and arrested in Thailand. Christopher Paul Neil will be facing charges of child-molestation. How did authorities track pedophile suspect Christopher Paul Neil, the focus of a worldwide manhunt that ended in Thailand? Paul was tracked through his boyfriend’s mobile phone which had a trace on it.
As Paul was arrested, the Thai police are appealing for more victims to come forward.
Wongkot Maneerin the deputy police chief have stated that there were up to seven children under ten years of age that have been abused by Christopher Neil Paul. One of the children included a girl. Not only is Christopher Paul Neil accused of raping young boys in Thailand, he is also accused of doing the same in both Vietnam and Cambodia. These three countries have extremely strict laws with penalties against rape. The penalties are far more harsh in regards to pedophilia.
But it is said that Paul isn’t a stranger to Thailand. Paul worked as a teacher that taught English to students throughout Asia. His last job was in South Korea. Paul’s arrest was made possible by a trace placed on a phone of his twenty-five year old Thai boyfriend. The trace led authorities to Pattaya, a seedy beach town in Thailand.
Two boys, ages nine and fourteen accuse Neil of paying them to give him oral sex. Under Thai law, that is more than enough grounds for prosecution. If he’s convicted in a Thai court, Christopher Paul Neil could face up to twenty years in prison. Wongkot is seeking to have Christopher Paul Neil tried in Bangkok. He added that once Paul serves his sentence, he can be extradited back to Canada under the sex tourism law.
However, the Canadian government hasn’t said if it actually plans to seek Paul’s extradition back. There’s a strong chance that Christopher Paul Neil could be tried in a Thai court.
The Cambodian and Vietnamese authorities too want to question Neil and possibly try him in their courts. Authorities across the world have been trying to track down Neil ever since German authorities found pictures of a man sexually abusing boys from Vietnam and Cambodia.
But it remains, Christopher Paul Neil was tracked down and arrested due to a trace on his boyfriend’s mobile phone.
One could ask this rhetorical question: isn’t technology great?
