Pakistani notorious Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud was assassinated in a U.S. Drone missile strikes on Friday November 1, 2013. One missile hit a compound, and another struck a car nearby.
It is unclear if the missile were fired from one or two drones operating in that same location at the time.
In usual fashion the government of Pakistan issued a statement through its foreign ministry saying it “strongly condemns the U.S. drone strike” in Waziristan saying: “The Government of Pakistan has consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive, entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications.”
Hakimullah Mehsud was wanted for his involvement in the December 30, 2009 bombing of a United States military base located near the Afghan town of Khost, that lies along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
The blast from the explosion killed seven American CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) officers and contractors, an officer of Jordanian Intelligence Service, and an Afghan contractor working for the CIA was also murdered in that attack.
The explosion occurred after a suicide bomber entered the military base and detonated a device that was hidden under his clothing and strapped to his body.
The bombing was the most lethal attack against the CIA in more than 25 years.
In a video posted after the attack the suicide bomber was shown seated next to Mehsud, who helped organize and plot the attack vowing to kill Americans in that case (source: Proud CIA bomber Human Khalil Abu-Mulal alBalawi took credit for attack http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilaRszC5n3Y).
On August 20, 2010, Mehsud was formally charged with conspiracy to murder United States Nationals while outside the United States and conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction against a National of the United States while outside the United States.
That same day, a federal warrant was issued by the United States District Court, District of Columbia, for Mehsud’s arrest.
On September 1, 2010, the United States added Hakimullah Mehsud to its list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists and the TTP to its list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations and has been hunting him down ever since.
The assassination of Mehsud is considered a huge victory in the war against terrorism globally.
It is also a victory for the CIA which finally got its revenge for the killing in its agents overseas.
The CIA refused comment in this incident.
