Initiation of CIADP Ground Activities launched different schemes at Chitral.
CHITRAL: District Nazim Maghfirat Shah and Managing Director THRIVE Azar Ayaz performed Ground Breaking of Norwegian and Dutch grant program Chitral Integrated Development Program (CIADP) ‘s 8 Physical Infrastructure interventions in Union Council Ayun selected sub valleys of Bomberete and Rumboor of Kalash valleys with the support of local Non Government Organization. The different interventions were inaugurated which were prioritized by the community and their elected representatives for the year 2009 like repair and up-gradation 0f 5 Irrigation Channels in Rumboor; these interventions will improve the supply of water for crops and thus bringing improvement in the livelihood of the communities on one hand and also improve the condition of main connecting road which is being damaged due to leakages in these water channels. Provision of pavements, drainage, stairs, public toilets and bathrooms in Anizh village and Drinking Water Supply Scheme for Brunthar village. This support under the program will improve the living conditions and health conditions of the community.
Speaking on the occasion MD THRIVE Aazar Ayaz emphasized that CIADP focus on the benefit of whole community of a settlement or area rather than groups and individuals. CIADP is an Integrated Program for the people of Chitral and will undertake interventions in all areas in a gradual and planned manner.
District Nazim Chitral Haji Maghfarat Shah, stressed on the ownership of the interventions by the communities and asked the gathered communities to look after the physical infrastructure in a good manner, as they are the beneficiaries. He also appreciated the efforts of THRIVE/CIADP team for undertaking the Challenge to work in a difficult and backward area like Chitral.
As regards the progress of prioritized work in the other 3-selected sub valleys of Chitral is in different stages Beori Gol (Electrification of Beori Bala) will supply electricity to Biori area. Assessment of both options, linkage with grid or provision of hydropower completed. Provision of Irrigation water to Nishiku-Drulasht area is an other project of this program. CIADP’s team for the first time in the history of Chitral has successfully pilot tested water uplifting from river bed to the height of 400meters (in 2 stages) and first time sowing of wheat on 16 Kanal of land in Drulasht area. Final design for actual project is on the drawing board.
River Cutting and Soil Erosion at Chunij -Chapli was a big problem of the area causing for losing of crops and land of the area. After assessment by CIADP’s team and river and disaster specialists design for physical works and planning for on ground activities is being finalized.
