Cigarette smoking a sweet poison, Youth should stay away from smoking: Naseem Lanker

 Srinagar, March 27 (Scoop News) — Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Ms. Naseem Lankar today while describing smoking as a sweet poison and a major cause for fatal diseases among the smokers,appealed people to avoid such injurious habits

 

While inaugurating an awareness programme on hazardous effects of smoking at Biscoe High School Srinagar organized by Voluntary Health Organization (VHO), Divisional Commissioner Naseem Lankar appealed the youth especially school children to stay away from such activities and also took part in eradicating the social evils like smoking etc. from the society which can lead to a certain death.

 

She stressed upon the Drug Controller Authorities to enforce and implement the laws already framed against cigarette smoking and be cautious in this regard. She directed them to enforce the ban on cigarette smoking at public places, colleges, health institutions and schools etc adding that smoking act against the youth below 18 years of age should be enforced strictly.

On the occasion, Dr. G.Q. Alaqband, renowned doctor and chairman J&K WHO, said that the people who take cigarette for a periodic tranquilizer are actually inviting their death soon. He said according to a survey, 98 percent village population is directly involved in tobacco smoking which is a issue to be considered on priority.

            The school children, on the occasion, gave out the practical demonstration of the diseases which can be caused by cigarette smoking.

            Among others, Director/Principal Tyndale Biscoe School, Vice Chairperson J&K VHO, Deputy Drug and Food Control Organization, Kashmir and other concerned were also present on the occasion & Food Control Organisation Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner stressed upon the Drug Controller to enforce and implement the laws already framed against cigarette smoking and be cautious in this regard. She directed them to enforce the ban on cigarette smoking at public places, colleges, health institutions and schools etc adding that smoking act against the youth below 18 years of age should be enforced strictly.

            Ms. Naseem Lankar appealed the youth to keep away their parents from this bad habit and hate such curse in the society.

Mehraj Ahmed Kakroo asked the children to be their ambassadors and ensure that parents and others do not smoke. He said that soon a drive will be launched to stop sale of cigarrettes within 100 yards of all educational institutions.

A.M.Mir Executive Director J&KVHA gave a resume of the activities being undertaken by the Association and future programmes.

            The school children, on the occasion, gave out the practical demonstration of the diseases which can be caused by cigarette smoking.

            Among others Parvez Kaul Director/Principal Tyndale Biscoe School, Dr Bilquues Jameela Vice Chairperson J&K VHA, Nazir Ahmed Deputy Controller Drug and Food Control Organization Kashmir, RJ Sara of Big 92.7 FM and Mrs Majumdar from VHAI New Delhi  was also present on the occasion.
