Jammu and Kashmir: Terming it an epidemic would not be an exaggeration as a huge chunk of city population is down with viral fiver. Flooding of the low lying areas of the city during the week and a swollen Tawi have together knocked down the city to bed.
People of all age groups can be seen queuing up in OPDs of the city hospital with complaints of high fiver, body ache, sore throat and loss of appetite.
"I am suffering from high fiver, accompanied by cough and cold for the last 2 days, it happens to me every year during monsoon season" said Mohan Singh, an elderly patient. Doctors however caution against eating unsafe street food and unfiltered tap water. "The tap water also has lot of biological impurities during monsoons as our supply lines are old and ill kept and lot of infectious matter manages to seep into the PHE pipes which bring in the tap water to our homes" said Dr. S K Khuru, adding that viral attacks are manifested in high fiver with body ache which h generally subsides in 3-4 days, during which patients should take light anti pyretic.
