Srinagar, February 18 (Scoop News) –Civil Defence Organization organised five days disaster preparedness training programme at Gund Hassibath for 83 youth of Sozeith, HMT, Gund Hassibath and Lawaypora, which was followed by a mock drill. During the training the volunteers were taught skills for conducting Search and Rescue and methods to extinguish small fires, using extinguishers. The youth were also taught basics of first aid, including Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation CPR.
Speaking on the occasion, DIG urged the youth to come forward and learn the skills of saving lives of people in need. He said that voluntarism is in our blood and the community is always the first responder in any eventuality and therefore there is need for the youth to learn these skills. He appreciated Civil Defence for organizing various programmes, with the active involvement of youth from the community. Earlier, Aamir Ali stressed on the necessity of having a trained community as first responders in view of our vulnerability to natural and man-made disasters. Dy. Controller and SHO Parimpora also spoke on the occasion and encouraged the youth to come forward. The programme was conducted by Rahi Riyaz. Certificates were distributed among the participants.
Later a mock drill was held where the trainees were taught methods to extinguish various types of fires using fire extinguishers and methods to rescue an injured from high rise buildings. The mock drill was witnessed by the villagers and locals, who appreciated Civil Defence for having organised such an educative programme for the community.
