Twenty days after suspending her campaign and announcing her support for Ill. Sen. Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton has entered the national spotlight again as a surrogate and active supporter of her one-time opponent.
Sharing the stage at their first joint appearance of the general election, Clinton again voiced her support of Obama as the Democratic party’s nominee and joked about the prolonged primary contest.
Obama complimented Clinton on several occasions before finally echoing the sentiments of an audience member who yelled, “She Rocks!”
The two spoke to supporters in the town of Unity, N.H., chosen not only for its name but also because the candidates split the town’s vote exactly in half during the state’s primary.
Clinton returned to the Senate earlier in the week with new clout thanks to her influence over the almost 18 million voters who supported her.
Since the primary season ended on June 3, Obama has worked toward winning over the large voting bloc that supported Clinton over the course of an extended contest that lasted nearly 18 months.
He has turned to Clinton to help sway her supporters, especially those who have voiced their support for GOP contender Ariz. Sen. John McCain as an alternative to the Illinois senator. Clinton directly addressed this issue at the event. “To anyone who voted for me and is now considering not voting or voting for Sen. McCain, I strongly urge you to reconsider,” she said.
