CBS News has projected that Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney will win the respective party caucuses taking place in Nevada. Entrance polls were conducted by CBS News with the issues on the minds of most Democratic caucus-goers was the economy. Health care was cited by one in four. Twenty-two percent had cited the Iraq war.
Almost thirty-percent of the Democratic voters were members of a union household. Obama had won the support of voters under the age of 45. Clinton got support from the older Democratic voters. Over half the women had given support to Clinton in the Nevada caucuses.
The men were divided with almost half and half for Clinton and Obama.
Latinos made up a fraction of the Democratic caucus-goers. Clinton had received most of the support from the Hispanics in the caucuses.
Mitt Romney was the only GOP candidate to seriously put his focus on Nevada. He would earn his second straight victory which comes after a win during the Michigan primary.
In the minds of Republican voters, the important issues were the economy and illegal immigration. At least three out of four GOP caucus-goers were conservative. Romney made seven campaign trips to Nevada while largely ceding the race in South Carolina.
So far, the Democratic Party has been fragmented in legal disputes and exchanges about race.
Recently, John Edwards and Hillary Clinton attacked Obama for complimenting Republican President Ronald Reagan. Obama fired back at Clinton saying that she would be a president whose plans would chance with the politics at the moment.
Still, there is still February 5 which is known as “Super Tuesday” where over 22 states case their votes for the eventual nominees of both parties.
