Several weeks ago, Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Hillary Clinton of New York had brought up questions about the relationship between Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Barack Obama and leftist radical William Ayers. However, it was presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain that brought it up first. It looks as if Clinton jumped in on the bandwagon to attacked Obama on his relationship with Ayers.
It was McCain that brought up the relationship between Obama and Ayers. Ayers founded the Weather Underground in 1969, which was a radical and violent leftist organization. This was also used as ammunition by Clinton against Obama. Clinton said that the relationship has brought up concerns.
Now, Clinton’s own ties with radicals have come up. Two retired lawyers who worked with Clinton during the 1970s have stepped forward. They called Clinton a hypocrite for attacking Obama’s ties with Ayers. Back in 1971, Clinton interned at a leftist law firm in Oakland, California.
The firm’s clients included Black Panthers and Communists. According to 89 year old Doris B. Walker of the American Communist Party, Clinton was being hypocritical. Walker explains’ She had to know who we were and what kinds of cases we were handling. We had a very left-wing reputation, including civil rights, constitutional law, racist problems.”
74 year old Malcolm Burnstein, a partner at that law firm also said that Clinton was being hypocritical. Burnstein said that it had crossed his mind to call the Philadelphia Inquirer and talk about Clinton’s past with the law firm. Now, Clinton’s attack on Obama’s ties with Ayers may soon come back to hurt her. In a sense, this is political karma working against Clinton.
Several have already stepped out to speak against Clinton. Tom Hayden, a major anti-Vietnam War activist and a ‘friend’ of the Clinton’s said that the Clinton’s criticism could be said the same about her. In short, Hayden’s words could give the implication that Clinton’s ties with leftist radicals are heavier than Obama’s ties with Ayers. Hayden himself is one of the famous Chicago 7.
In short, this is a foreshadowing that Clinton’s chances of securing the Democratic nomination are grim. Clinton’s campaign has suffered very devastating blows within the last few months. However, Obama’s campaign has managed to recover and regenerate from the damage.
Despite several major wins, Clinton’s campaign has been shaken up. Despite losses, Obama’s campaign still has its solidarity. After the May 6 contests, it seems that Obama may be the likely Democratic nominee. However, Obama said that the contest is not over yet.
In regards to Clinton, Hayden said that she’s being narrow-minded. He explains that Clinton’s not seeing the bigger picture and that she will end up as a victim of her own attacks. Things do not look that good for Clinton’s candidacy.
