Clinton’s Newest Ad Features Valerie Plame

Instead of focusing her attacks on Democratic co-frontrunner Senator Barack Obama of Illinois, co-frontrunner Senator Hillary Clinton of New York launched an ad in Oregon against current US President Bush and his policy in Iraq. However, this attack could also extend towards presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona.

The ad explains that Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame were instrumental towards the claims of the Bush administration about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction (WMD). There have been several high profile figures that have been implicated in the Valerie Plame scandal. The scandal came to be when her identity was leaked out.

In the ad, Clinton attacked the Iraq War. This ad was called the “Strongest Plan.” It is unknown what effect this new ad will have on the current state of the Democratic race. Clinton’s chances of securing the Democratic nomination look very grim.

After the May 6 contests, it looks as if Obama is highly likely to become the Democratic nominee. But, Clinton has refused to drop out of the race. Despite winning some major states, Clinton’s campaign has suffered major damage. Her campaign has suffered several shakeups. But, Obama’s campaign still remained strong.

At a Mother’s Day fundraiser in New York, Clinton urged her donors not to leave her. She said that the adventure wasn’t over.

Valerie Plame could be considered the “Jane Bond” of the United States. She worked as a CIA agent for quite a while. On October 22, 2007, Plame’s memoir called “My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House” was published. In the book, Bush’s former chief of staff Carl Rove, Robert Novak of the Chicago Sun Times, and VP Dick Cheney’s former aide Lewis “Scooter” Libby were implicated.

Libby was the only one implicated that was convicted. He was charged and convicted of perjury. But, his sentence was commuted to two years of probation. At the same time, the United States Court of Appeals has moved to revoke Libby’s license to practice law in Washington DC.

Now Plame and her husband are in Clinton’s latest ad. But, what effect will it have?
