To save the electricity & to use maximum daylight, Bangladesh moves the clock one hour from today (Friday). That means Bangladesh would virtually begin their work an hour earlier than usual. With the change in time put in place, June 20 will come to be counted from an hour earlier and the Bangladesh Standard Time will be GMT +07:00 hours instead of GMT +06:00 hours.
The energy department has launched a massive awareness campaign & other initiatives to make the transition as smooth as possible for people. Special documentaries have already been aired on Bangladesh Television & private television & radio channels. All mobile subscribers have already received short messages & district administrations have also been directed to make people aware of the matter.
Power development board told the media that at least 200 megawatts of electricity will be saved daily across the country, in a press note.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina will release a special memorial stamp as clocks across the country are reset an hour ahead to 12 midnight.
Government official said that people would eventually adjust to the time change. They also informed the media that no institution should change its timing. If any does, then the government will try to negotiate with them & if negotiation does not work the government will take necessary steps.
The new timing will remain in effect until further notice & government wants to make the change in time permanent if it finds the system does not create any negative impact in winter.
