Srinagar, April 13, (Scoop News)- J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has condoled the demise of police personnel in a militant attack at Khrew and described it a heinous attempt by the militants at the lives of innocents.
In his condolence message to the police force and the bereaved families, the Chief Minister has expressed solidarity and sympathy with them. He prayed for peace to the departed souls and highlighted the sacrifices of police personnel to safeguard the lives of people.
It may be mentioned that Militants fired upon the guards at the residence of a political activist at Bapora, Khrew in the jurisdiction of police station Pampore on Sunday Police said.
Police said that in the firing incident, two policemen Head Constable Abdul Hamid and Constable Vinod Kumar were injured who were rushed to nearby hospital; where they succumbed to their injuries. The militants decamped with a SLR rifle from the spot.
Soon after the incident, the security forces cordoned off the area. The militants were trapped at Gotran Khrew and an encounter followed. In this encounter two militants were killed. Two AK 47 rifles and the snatched SLR rifle was recovered from the encounter site. The identity of the slain militants is being ascertained.
Militants opened fire at the residence of Yawar Masoodi, who is organiser of National Conference’s youth wing in South Kashmir, at Khrew in Pulwama, 35 km from Srinagar, this afternoon, police said.
The attack took place when Mr Masoodi was holding a party meeting at his residence, a spokesman for National Conference said.
