Srinagar,July 24 (Scoop News) -Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today directed the Transport Department to work out a special package for the transporters whose vehicles have been condemned and they are not in a position to purchase new ones for financial distress.
Discussing this and other issues confronting transporters at a joint meeting of high level government officers and the representatives of transporters here, the Chief Minister said that the issue of helping the transporters to purchase new vehicles and obtain finance from the J&K Bank should be chipped in the package to be formulated in this regard.
"A holistic view is required to be taken to address the issue", he said adding that the help whatever possible to rehabilitate the transporters should be considered actively. He said that government wants to give necessary fillip to the economic activities in different sectors and facilitate growth and development.
"Transport is an important economic activity linked with passenger service, goods transhipment and tourism", he added and said that the transporters who have suffered on account of condemnation of vehicles require focus to help them reinstate their livelihood generating activity.
The meeting was attended by Minister for Transport, Qamar Ali Akhoon, MLA Batmaloo, Irfan Ahmad Shah, Principal Secretary Planning, B. B. Vyas, Commissioner Secretary Transport, Pawan Kotwal, IG Traffic, Muneer Khan, various Heads of the Departments and representatives of Transporters.
