In the case of United States President Barack Obama, he is faced with yet another vacancy that needs to be filled. Back in early January, Obama had nominated Sanjay Gupta to be the next US Surgeon General. Gupta would have been the third Asian in Obama’s cabinet. Also, he would have been the first Surgeon General of Indian descent.
Currently, Gupta is CNN’s chief medical correspondent. He is also a practicing neurosurgeon. However, Gupta is no stranger to the White House. He does have White House experience under Bill Clinton’s administration.
Today, Gupta withdrew his name as a possibility.
An official said: “He has removed himself from consideration to focus more on his medical career and his family. We know he will continue to serve and educate the public through his work with the media and the medical arena.”
On-air, CNN’s Wolf Blitzer had also given confirmation of Gupta dropping out for the position of Surgeon General. Overall, Gupta wishes to continue his work in the medical field.
However, Gupta did bring controversy. This stems from his time at CNN. Since Gupta has withdrawn his name, who will Obama nominate next for Surgeon General?
