The political tussle that now looms between Israel and Hamas-led government in Gaza Strip is comparable to a chicken and the egg issue. Which logic is acceptable or not to the international community, particularly the international relief agencies now providing food assistance to the 400,000 population in that enclave, remains to be ironed out. And the economic problems in Gaza Strip has multiplied tremendously after the Israel government has sealed off its border that is the regular access route for relief and basic commodity goods to Gaza strip. At this hour, Gaza residents are already running out of fuel to run its power plants, which put the enclave in total darkness. Thanks to the resourcefulness of the residents there who made things possible by stocking some candles to light up their homes. But other services such as hospitals, bakeries, water and sewerage system are being threatened by the blockade.
The question now is: Why did Israel closed the border leading to Gaza Strip? The answer is simple: Israel cut the flow of commodity goods and other stuffs to Gaza in retaliation for the Hamas’ increasing launching of its Kasam rockets into the Israel territory. Consequently, many Israelis living in that area were killed or injured from rocket explosions. Now, it is so ironic to read that the United Nations Relief Work Agency is condemning Israel for what it did to Gaza Strip. Does it mean that Israel should continue ignoring what the Hamas group is doing to innocent Israelis, even if they are meant to kill innocent lives? Sounds crazy. And it seems illogical to know that only Hamas is authorized to do evil things against the other side, without the international community ranting for the crimes it did to Israel civilians.
After all, the Israel government has issued a statement, saying that it will again re-open the border crossing once Hamas stops launching rocket attacks on Israel. That’s all Israel is asking. As everybody knows, "Beggars cannot be chossers."
Gaza Strip is heavily dependent on border crossing as the main route for commodity goods to reach its population. Why attack Israel in the first place when they (Hamas) knew very well that Israel has all the means to retaliate. Hamas should be intelligent enough to know first hand on the impacts of its own actions to the people in Gaza Strip. Well, what the Hamas is doing right now is the most stupid thing the group ever did. And the group thinks that Israel will give in to its unconditional demands of wiping out Israel on the map.
At this point in time, Gaza Strip is only a small community which is still heavily dependent on foreign aids in order to survive. As to whether Hamas is keeping great aces to defeat Israel is some kind of hallucination. Perhaps, the local population should strongly urge Hamas to stop attacking Israel and instead, work out on how to co-exist with its technologically-advanced neighbor. If not, then Hamas is sacrificing its population for its own selfish interests.
