Rutgers Football Wins Lambert-Meadowlands Trophy
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Jan. 5, 2015) – In a season filled with several significant firsts for Rutgers football, add one more: The program was named today as the winner of the Lambert-Meadowlands Trophy, emblematic of the top team in the East in the Bowl Subdivision, for the first time in the 79-year history of the award.
“To bring the Lambert-Meadowlands Trophy home to the state of New Jersey is very exciting for the program,” said Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood. “It is an honor to be named the top team in the East.”
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) made the historic announcement today less than two weeks after the Scarlet Knights put the finishing touches on an 8-5 inaugural Big Ten season with a 40-21 victory over North Carolina in the Quick Lane Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit.
Rutgers, which made its ninth bowl appearance in the past 10 years this season, earned its first-ever Big Ten victory by beating Michigan at home and sold out three of its four Big Ten home games in posting the highest average home attendance (50,632 for its six home games) in school history.
That included a stadium-record crowd of 53,774 for the school’s first Big Ten game against Penn State.
The Scarlet Knights’ regular season was punctuated by the biggest comeback in program history, when Rutgers rallied from a 35-10 deficit for a 41-38 road victory over Maryland.
Established in 1936 as the Lambert Trophy to recognize supremacy in Eastern college football, the award has since grown to recognize the best team in the East in the Bowl Subdivision. In 1983, the Lambert family decided the Meadowlands Sports Complex would be the best organization with a sincere and involved interest in college athletics to sponsor and manage the award.
It marks the third Lambert Award for Flood, as he was on the coaching staff at both Hofstra and Delaware in 1999 and 2003, respectively, when the programs captured Football Championship Subdivision honors.
To be eligible for the Lambert Meadowlands Award, a school must be located in the East or play at least half of its schedule against eligible Lambert teams. The territory includes New York, New Jersey, New England and Pennsylvania, while teams in the bordering states of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia and the District of Columbia qualify if at least half of their schedule features eligible teams or are Eastern College Athletic Conference member institutions. Teams in Eastern-based football conferences, regardless of location, qualify if at least half their schedule is against Lambert eligible teams.
The Rutgers football team will be honored, along with the other division winners, on February 19, at the Eastern College Football Awards Banquet, hosted by the ECAC at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. The Eastern College Football Awards Banquet will feature the ECAC Football Awards and the Lambert Meadowlands Awards.

Rininger Named Big South Player of the Week
LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the first time this season and the fourth time in her career, Liberty redshirt junior post player Ashley Rininger has been named the Big South Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Last week, Rininger led the Big South-leading Lady Flames (8-5, 4-0 Big South) to victories over UNC Asheville and High Point, both of whom were previously undefeated in Big South play. The Canton, Ohio, native topped the team in points (17.5 ppg), rebounds (16.5 rpg) and blocked shots (4.0 bpg) while posting her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season.
Rininger scored a season-high 22 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked four shots on Tuesday at Asheville, helping Liberty post a 67-55 victory over the Bulldogs at Kimmel Arena. She then contributed 13 points, a career-high 20 boards and four blocks to the Lady Flames’ 64-47 triumph over High Point on Saturday.
Rininger’s 20 rebounds against the Panthers were the most by a Lady Flame since Avery Warley pulled down 22 boards versus Charleston Southern on March 10, 2012. She also played strong defense on Saturday, limiting High Point standout post player Stacia Robertson to seven points on 1-of-10 from the field.
For the season, Rininger ranks third in the Big South in blocked shots (2.2 bpg), fourth in rebounding (8.9 rpg) and eighth in field goal percentage (.443).
Rininger and the Lady Flames will host Presbyterian tonight at the Vines Center, starting at 7 p.m. They will then travel to Coastal Carolina for a Thursday matchup at The HTC Center, with tipoff slated for 5 p.m.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Infiniti announced on Monday that it will once again partner with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the NCAA and ESPN as sponsor of the Infiniti Coaches’ Charity Challenge. Purdue head coach Matt Painter is participating for the fifth year and representing the Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund.
Painter has finished in the top four in each of the four previous years, including second in each of the last two years. Purdue fans are encouraged to vote every day to help Coach Painter raise money for the Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund.
The program pits 48 NABC coaches from the nation’s top programs in a fan-vote challenge, with Infiniti’s total contribution exceeding $300,000. Now in its third year, Infiniti will make a $100,000 contribution to the winning coach’s designated charity.
The Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund is a West Lafayette-based organization whose mission is to fund research to fight Niemann-Pick Type C Disease (NPC). The fund was set up by a family with three children impacted by NPC, and has funded more than $300,000 in research at Purdue since its inception in 2008.
For ten weeks, 48 coaches compete in a round robin bracket tournament for the chance to win $100,000 for charity.
The tournament is divided into four rounds. The coaches with the most votes will advance to the next round and earn more money for their charity.

Subject: Fighting Irish Men’s Lacrosse Unveils 2015 Schedule
January 5, 2015
Fighting Irish Unveil 2015 Schedule
Notre Dame to play 11 regular-season games, including four ACC contests.
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Five squads listed in the top 10 of Inside Lacrosse’s Face-Off Yearbook preseason poll appear on the University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team’s 2015 schedule. The Fighting Irish, who are slotted at No. 2, recently unveiled their stout 11-game schedule for the upcoming campaign.
The top-10 teams Notre Dame is slated to face are Denver (#1), Duke (#3), Syracuse (#4), North Carolina (#6) and Virginia (#10), while Army (#18) also appears on the Irish docket.
The Fighting Irish will open the regular season Feb. 14 when they play host to their former BIG EAST Conference rival Georgetown. The Hoyas lead the all-time series 7-6, but the Irish have won the last three encounters. Notre Dame will face Michigan Feb. 21 in Ann Arbor in the first meeting between the two schools since the Wolverines gained varsity status prior to the 2012 season.
Notre Dame returns home Feb. 28 to take on Dartmouth for the first time since 2009. After battling the Big Green, the Irish will hit the road for key showdowns at Denver (March 7) and Virginia (March 14) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener. Last season, Notre Dame fell to Denver, 10-7, but bounced back with an 18-9 win over Virginia.
Following that difficult road swing, the Irish return to the friendly confines of Arlotta Stadium for four of their next five games. Notre Dame will play host to Ohio State March 21 in the annual clash between the two Midwest programs. The Fighting Irish and Buckeyes have met every year since 1981 and Notre Dame has won the last 12 encounters.
The Irish are back to ACC action March 28 when they welcome in Syracuse. A rematch of the 2014 national title game is scheduled for April 4 in Durham, N.C. as Notre Dame and Duke do battle once again. The Blue Devils topped the Fighting Irish, 11-9, in May’s championship game in Baltimore.
The home non-conference contest versus Marquette on April 7 precedes Notre Dame’s final ACC regular-season clash against North Carolina, which is slated for April 18 at Arlotta Stadium. Notre Dame won at both Marquette, 12-7, and North Carolina, 11-10, last season.
Notre Dame will try to defend its ACC Championship title when the 2015 tournament is held May 24-26 at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. The Irish topped Maryland, 6-5, and Syracuse, 15-14, to claim the 2014 crown during their first season in the league.
The Fighting Irish travel to West Point, N.Y. for the first time since 2002 to face Army May 2 in the regular-season finale. Notre Dame defeated the Black Knights, 18-17, in last year’s meeting in South Bend.
“It’s a great schedule,” Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan says. “We think we’re going to play a number of the top teams in the country and that’s always our goal. We want to play against the best and play with the best. We’re excited about the schedule, but realize it presents an awfully big challenge as well.”
The Irish, who posted a 12-6 record last season, hope to see their name in the NCAA Championship field for the 10th consecutive year when the 20-team field is announced May 3. Notre Dame and Maryland are the only two schools to qualify for the NCAA Championship in each of the last nine seasons. Notre Dame has advanced to Championship Weekend three times in the last five campaigns, including title-game appearances in 2010 and 2014.
