Seminole Women’s Hoops Hosts Jacksonville

Florida State Women’s Basketball looks to push record to 13-1 and improve on its eight-game win streak in non-conference finale

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State Women’s Basketball team looks to wrap up its non-conference portion of the regular-season schedule on a strong note when it hosts Jacksonville on “Holiday 2-for-1 Day” on Monday night at 7 p.m. at the Donald L. Tucker Center.

Monday’s matchup can be viewed on WatchESPN as well as through the WatchESPN app, while fans can also listen to the game through the local radio broadcast on WQTL 106.1 FM. Fans in attendance can purchase a ticket to Monday night’s game and get a second one for free.

FSU leads Jacksonville 3-0 all-time and faces the Dolphins (3-7) for the second consecutive season. Last year on Dec. 8, 2013, the Noles (12-1) defeated JU 71-33 and got 15 points and three 3-pointers from current redshirt junior guard Morgan Jones.

The Seminoles carry two impressive win streaks into Monday night’s matchup. The Noles are riding an eight-game win streak that is the longest in the ACC. Also, FSU has won 21 consecutive non-conference matchups at home, with its last loss coming on Nov. 27, 2011, to Nebraska (lost 66-63).

FSU continues to own the Sunshine State – since the start of the 2012-13 season, the Noles are 14-1 against teams from the state of Florida. This year, FSU is 3-0 against Florida-based opponents, defeating Bethune-Cookman (103-34), Florida (77-51) and North Florida (79-58).

Monday night’s game against Jacksonville marks the season debut of talented sophomore guard Leticia Romero. The Las Palmas, Spain, native gained immediate eligibility by the NCAA on Dec. 23 after transferring this summer from Kansas State. As a freshman last year, Romero averaged 14.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and five assists with KSU.

Florida State’s current eight-game win streak is tied for the ninth-longest in program history. Under head coach Sue Semrau, FSU has won eight or more games in a row six different times, including the school-record 12-game win streak in the 2004-05 season.

The Seminoles are one of just 19 Division I schools that averages 80 points per game or more. The Noles enter Monday night’s tilt with Jacksonville averaging 80.1 points per game.

In three games this season against teams from the state of Florida, FSU has won by a combined total of 259-143. That is an average scoring margin of +38.7 points per game. Over its last four games, FSU opponents have trended downward in field goal percentage: 39.7% by Temple (12/14), 37% by UNF (12/16), 32.8% by Savannah State (12/19) and 31.7% by Tulane (12/22).

Sophomore guard Brittany Brown is averaging 12 points per game over her last four games played. Brown has scored in double figures in each of her last four games. Junior center Adut Bulgak has been at her best on FSU’s home court. In five games played at the Tucker Center this year, Bulgak is shooting 64.4 percent (38-of-59) from the floor and leads FSU with 18.4 points per game in Tallahassee.

Florida State is receiving a season-best 34 votes in the USA Today Coaches Poll, essentially sitting 26th in the national rankings. A spot in the Top 25 this season would mean FSU has appeared in the national rankings for a ninth consecutive year.
