Subject: UW WBB: Wisconsin 63, Michigan 53
Wisconsin (5-6, 1-0) opened up the Big Ten Conference season with a 63-53 win over Michigan (8-4, 0-1) on Sunday afternoon at the Kohl Center. The Badgers won their second-straight conference opener after defeating Illinois 76-64 in the conference opener last season.
- Junior Nicole Bauman had a career-high and game-high 21 points in the victory.
- Junior Tessa Cichy tied her career high with 14 points.
- UW is now 13-19 all-time in Big Ten openers including a 9-8 mark at home. Head coach Bobbie Kelsey is 2-2 in Big Ten openers.
- Senior Cassie Rochel recorded two of the Badgers four blocks and now has 132 career blocks.
- The Badgers shot 42.9 percent (21-49) from the field and 57.1 percent (8-14) from 3-point range. UW also held an 86.7 free-throw percentage (13-15) in the game.
- The Badgers outrebounded the Wolverines 36-33
- Cichy added a career-high five assists while Bauman also dished out five dimes.
- Bauman’s four made 3-point field goals was a game high for a Badger player this season.
- Wisconsin continues conference play when it heads to Northwestern on Jan. 1 for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
