MBB: Green Picks Up CAA Honor

Hempstead, NY – Hofstra University junior guard Juan’ya Green was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office today.

The accolade is the first from the CAA for Green and the fourth this season for the Pride as sophomore guard Brian Bernardi was the CAA Player of the Week on November 17 and junior forward Ameen Tanksley picked up the award on December 1 and December 8.

Green continued his strong season as the transfer from Niagara averaged 15 points, 10.5 assists and seven rebounds per game in leading the Pride to a 1-1 week. Green made his presence felt in every facet of the game as he had a double-double against La Salle on Tuesday before closing the week with the first triple-double in program history.

He leads Hofstra with four double-doubles this season and his triple-double was only the sixth in Division I year.

Green got his week started with a 15-point, 11-assist effort in an 83-74 loss to La Salle before exploding for 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the dominating 88-62 win over LIU Brooklyn at the Barclays Center. He was also tremendous from the free throw line last week as he shot 12-14 (86%).

This season he ranks second on the team with 17.6 points, while leading the Pride with 82 assists and 18 steals. He is also averaging 5.1 rebounds per game, while playing a team-best 36 minutes per outing.

Hofstra is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Central Connecticut State for a 4 p.m. contest.
