By David A. Willauer-Contributing Editor-Bob Carpenter Center-University of Delaware-Newark, DE 12-29-14-The University of Delaware Lady Blue Hens snapped a 3 game losing streak after a 30-30 halftime tie outscored the Lady Broncos of Rider University in the second half by 38-23 behind freshman sensation Erika Brown’s 16 point performance. Hannah Jardine recorded her first double double of the contest as she scored 12 points and 11 boards. Courtni Green 12 points, Makeda Nicholas 12 rebounds her career high, Joy Caracciolo with 14 points.
Tina Martin, University of Delaware Women’s Head Basketball Coach: ” I got on the kids at halftime that 30 points in the first half was too much and we gave up 23 in the second half but the kids responded defensively as we slashed the rims.” “Robin Perkins did well for Rider as she is their leading scorer along with keeping them off the boards, Joy Caracciolo and Makeda Nicholas responded well in the starting lineup and played their roles in the game.” Hannah Jardine had a good look and Makeda Nichols had a good screen as I have been jumping on them about the plays which that was a big boost for us.” “I thought in the second half where Courtni Green and Jessie Wallace from Rider collided that gave us the momentum for us up to play better basketball and we battled for a loose ball and needed anything which was huge for our team as well as for Hannah Jardine’s 3 point effort along with her double figures we need to have that spark and this is good for the young group.” “Hannah has been our rock as I’ve been playing her in a lot of minutes she is going to rebound the ball her shots have fallen and we are getting the ball outside and inside and we need these kids to show that kind of balance for a sophomore it feel good for our squad to get this win.”
Kamila Hoskova led the Lady Broncos at 3-9 with 13 points.
