Colo Colo was able to get three points at home as group three heads towards a fever-pitch ending in a few weeks. The bad news was that they left themselves vulnerable after only obtaining two goals off enormous gaffes by former Colombian international Juan Carlos Henao. His mistakes allowed El Cacique to win and generate the ire of Jorge Pellicer. This would be the final decision made by the Chilean strategist after he was sacked on Wednesday. Colo Colo ended the first half scoreless against chipper Maracaibo side, although the home side dominate play. The match was about to take a turn that would have been looked at in a positive light by a large portion of the population across the Andes, but Bolivian ref somehow disallowed an earl Maracaibo goal. The beginning of the second half would see Maracaibos team captain also begin to bid adieu. In the 46th minute Gustavo Biscayzaú took advantage of Henao coming out in horrid fashion and drilled the ball in the net. A few minutes later Argentine Lucas Barrios flicked a cross into the right post of the Colombian keeper. He thought the ball was going out and did not cover his post. The ball slowly rolled in, making any effort he made quite fruitless. Maracaibo still braved the adversity and generated a penalty kick. This was when Colo Colo and former Boca goalkeeper Cristian Muñoz made a key save off the PK and warded off the final Venezuelan threat. This result favors Boca, who will be cheering on their executioners at the Estadio Jalsco this past Tuesday. A Boca win combined with an Atlas victory will see the Xeneizes move on and be able to defend their title. A draw would force Boca to win by three or more goals. A win by Colo Colo would force the Argentines to score at least five goals advance. Both matches will be played simultaneously on April 24th.
