The Children’s Hospital of Michigan at the Detroit Medical Center (DMC) received approval from the City of Troy Planning Commission on preliminary site plans to build a new free-standing outpatient facility in Troy. The new facility will be located at 350 W. Big Beaver Road, Troy, Michigan.
The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center – Troy will serve its patients in Oakland County and areas beyond. Ground breaking is planned for early fall 2014, completion of the new child-focused center anticipated by year-end 2015.
Established more than 125 years ago, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan is the state’s first and most experienced hospital devoted entirely to treating children and childhood illnesses. From top to bottom, this new facility will be designed just for kids and their unique needs. While many hospitals combine adult and pediatric care in the same setting, the Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s outpatient specialty centers are child-centered, recognizing that children are not little adults. They need a place they can call their own.
The new facility will provide a $42 million investment, 100 full-time health care jobs, and 60 on-site construction jobs over the 13-month building of the 63,000 square foot, three-floor facility devoted entirely to pediatric specialty care with substantial adjacent parking.
”At the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, taking care of kids is not part of what we do, it’s all we do, and we are very excited about the future of providing highly specialized pediatric care in the community of Troy,” said Larry Gold, CEO of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.
“Having a sick, injured or chronically ill child is not easy for the child or parents, and when a child requires outpatient specialty care it may mean frequent outpatient appointments. Having this facility located closer to home for so many of the patients we serve will help make the lives of many families just a bit easier,” Gold said.
The Children’s Hospital of Michigan Specialty Center – Troy will provide several key services, including a 24/7 Pediatric Emergency Room.
