CHITRAL: World Wide Fund for Nature Pakistan launched a new project on Community Based Snow Leopard Conservation and Watershed Management in Chitral in order to protect snow leopard and watershed management for ecological restoration in chitral. An inception workshop was organized by WWF-P in Chitral participated by the heads of line department, target community Reprentatives, NGOs.
Addressing a one-day inception workshop on the new project here on Thursday Mr. Shafiqullah Khan Field Biologist says that Rumbbor Valley in Lower Chitral and Laspur valley in Upper Chitral has been selected as project site for this community based conservation project. “Snow leopard is a flagship species and collaborative efforts are needed to protect this species” he added
the experts presented their presentation in the workshop on conservation of snow leopard and watershed management. They include Mr. Karman Hussain, Research coordinator WWF-Pakistan, Mr. Ajaz Ahmad CDO Forest Chitral, Mr. Shakeel, DFO Chitral Gol National Park, Mr. Imtiaz Hussain DFO Wildlife Chitral and Mr. Hamid Ahmad Manager GOLF Project Chitral. They said that snow leopard is an indicator species in the ecosystem and the survival of this species is necessary for a healthy ecosystem. While talking to this scribe Mr. Shafiqullah Khan, Field Biologist detailed that this new project will work on the revival of indigenous resource management system in the project sites for the wise and sustainable use of nature resources. The workshop was participated by the representatives of the civil
society organizations of the project area, senior government officials, wildlife experts and NGOs Reprentatives.
