Holding previous coalition regime responsible for the Amarnath land row, Patron National Conference and former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah today said that time has come when the people of the state must isolate divisive and communal forces who are trying to divide the state on communal, regional and religious lines.
Addressing a largely attend public meeting, here today, Dr Abdullah said that Congress and PDP are responsible for the Amarnath land row which gave vent to religion and regional divide in the state.
Dr. Abdullah said attempts are being made by some vested interest political groups to divide the state on communal and regional lines little realizing that the strength of the nation is its secularism. He said, "It is high time that we should isolate such forces who are bent upon to create wedge among communities and regions".
A self-centered divisive policy utterly to gain political mileage seems to be going dearer to some political parties and leaders but their "divisive" approach will get a befitting reply in the ensuing elections, he said adding, ""My problem is I don’t think this way of doing politics and making policy is good for state of Jammu and Kashmir or the entire country."We have to stand up against such forces so that the basic structure of our civilization and country can be saved".
It is the unholy alliance of Congress and PDP which is responsible for the entire mess in the state, he said adding that the two political parties have strengthened the hands of communal forces and vested interests.
Dr. Abdullah said National Conference is a party committed to communal harmony, brotherhood and equitable distribution of resources among all the three regions of the state and shall always strive for the upliftment of the downtrodden irrespective of their caste, creed, colour or religion.
"Me and my party has a dream of transforming the destiny of the state and its people and if voted to power National Conference will usher an era of unparallel unprecedented development in the state and open new avenues of employment", Dr. Abdullah said.
Referring to the weather conditions prevailing in the valley and also in the upper reaches of Jammu region and Ladakh Dr. Abdullah said that the inclement weather will not permit the poll process to be conducted smoothly
"We strongly recommend that the Election Commission of India should take notice of the inclement weather and postpone the elections to March – April 2009", he said.
Those who addressed the gathering included S. Harbans Singh, Aijaz Jan Shah Mohammad Tantrey, Master Ghulam Qadir, Ch. Gani, Shehnaz Ganai, Peer Nissar, Bimla Luthra, Vijay Lakshmi Dutta and Mahinder Pyasa .
