Jammu, January 23, (Scoop News)_Gearing up for the political battles, the state unit of Congress party has appealed All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president, Rahul Gandhi, to reconsider his decision on pre-poll arrangement for upcoming parliament and assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmier.
“Any decision on prepoll alliance would shrink the party’s space and the High Command should allow the party to go alone for the polls.” several paery leaders said in a press statement issued in Jammu, the winter capital, on Thursday.
A high-level delegation led by state congress committee chief, Prof Saifuddin Soz, met Rahul Gandhi and put forth its views on pre-poll alliance ahead of parliamentary or assembly polls. The delegation comprised senior Congress leaders from Kashmir and Jammu, including district presidents.
“I didn’t speak on the occasion but many party leaders spoke and put forth their views about the issue (pre-poll alliance),” Soz said.
Congress leader and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil, urged that congress party should “no more be a B-team in future.”
He said majority of the party-men demanded the high command that there should be no alliance and the party should be strengthened in all three regions of the State.
“We told Rahul Ji that Congress should not surrender Kashmir at any cost, be it in parliament or assembly elections and we should send our party workers to parliament or state assembly”,he asserted.
Among others who were part of the Congress delegation included Madan Lal Sharma member parliament, lawmaker from Inderwal G M Saroori, former minister Mula Ram and district presidents from Kashmir and Jammu region.
The Congress leaders informed Rahul that over the past five years of NC-Congress
rule in the state, the party workers have suffered discrimination on all fronts. NC ministers always entertained their own workers, be it giving government jobs to youth, allotting tenders, or giving contracts.
The party’s district president for Srinagar, Abdul Gani Khan said the meeting was fruitful.
The party leaders urged the AICC vice president to ensure that Ghulam Nabi Azad and Saif Din Soz should jointly address the election rallies in Jammu and Kashmir.”This will help poll prospects of our party in the state”, the leaders informed Rahul.
They also requested Rahul to keep a close watch on elections in Jammu and Kashmir and ensure that there was no rigging,
Surprisingly, Rahul has started a direct contact with his party workers and prefers to.listen to them rather than depending on the inputs given by senior leaders
