Congress subverting Jammu’s mandate to please NC:Hari Om

Jammu, December 24, (Scoop News)- Dismissing as hollow and misleading the oft-repeated claim of the Congress and Congress ministers in the NC-led coalition government that they been according equal treatment to the people of Jammu province and that they have fulfilled almost all the solemn commitments made on the eve of the 2008 assembly elections, Prof Hari Om, Political Advisor to state BJP President Jugal Kishore Sharma, today asked the Congress to stop hoodwinking its core constituency in this province. “It is a crime against man and God to make hollow claims in its desperate bid to justify the unjustifiable. The truth is that the Congress has subverted the mandate the people of Jammu province gave to it in 2002 and 2008,” said Prof Hari Om

“In 2008, the Congress contested the Assembly elections on four definite Jammu-specific planks – establishment of regional development board, implementation of Wazir Commission report, constitution of delimitation commission and reversal of discriminatory policies – but did nothing to fulfill even one of these solemn promises,” Prof Hari Om said. He added that the Congress government not only implemented the Wazir Commission report in a wrong way by setting up four districts in Kashmir and four in Jammu throwing to the wind the recommendation that three new districts of Samba, Reasi and Kishtwar be created in Jammu and one more district in Kashmir but also turned down the demand seeking establishment of regional development board saying “district development boards were already there across the state and, hence, there was no need to establish regional development board in Jammu”. As for its commitments on delimitation commission and a fair dispensation to Jammu province, the Congress government did nothing whatsoever, bemoaned Prof Hari Om and added that its utter failure to honour any of these four commitments should lay bare the disparities between wrong assertions and the ground realities. The Congress-led coalition government also did not fulfill its commitment that it, if voted to power, will “give full protection to the minorities, do everything possible to safeguard their rights and constitute a minority commission to look after minority communities”.

Prof Hari Om further said that the Congress also threw its 2008 election manifesto in the dustbin after coming back to power in collaboration with the pro-autonomy and Valley-centric NC. The Congress had said that “when elected to power, “party will restructure the Constitution of the State into a federal set-up by setting up separate regional councils for Jammu and Kashmir, introduce a bill in the new Legislative Assembly seeking to constitute Delimitation Commission for delimiting the Legislative Assembly constituencies as required by law and J&K Panchayati Raj Act will be amended to bring it in conformity with the provisions as contained in the 73rd and 74th Amendments to the Constitution of India”, but it did nothing whatsoever during these five years of the Congress-NC rule, said the Political Advisor to J&K BJP President . He said the people of Jammu province are fully aware of its Kashmir-centric approach and they would teach the Congress a lesson like the people of MP, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Delhi taught to in the just-held assembly elections. The Congress must give up its appeasement policy and honour all the commitments it made in 2002 and 2008 failing which it will bite dust in Jammu province, he said.
