Representative Bobby Rush (D-Illinois) was thrown off the House Floor today after wearing a hoodie and sunglasses. “Racial Profiling has to stop” Rush said. After pulling the hood over his head and citing passages from the bible like “ to do justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with our god”, The Congressman replaced his reading glasses with sunglasses.
Representative Greg Harper (R- Mississippi) who was presiding over the Chamber today reminded Mr Bush of the Rules “ Clause 5 of Rule 17 prohibits the wearing of hats in the chamber when the House is in session. The Chair finds that the donning of a hood is not consistent with this rule. Members need to remove their hoods or leave the floor.”
After not reacting to the Speaker’s instructions, Mr Rush was escorted by the House Sergeants, but kept yelling “May God Bless Trayvon Martin’s soul and his family.
Even if Rush was violating House Rules Today, it’s good to know we have someone in Washington who is not afraid to use his voice.
