Scope for energy conservation
In the field of energy utilization we should put our mind toward two tasks. First is to check the heavy loss of energy through improved technology and second is to reduce substantially the environmental threats of power projects and modern machineries. That is to Conserve energy and protect ourselves and our surroundings.
For the conservation of energy, the efforts of public as well as of the government are required.
Proper and regular maintenance of vehicles would save oil as well as the environment by using high grade lubricant and frictionless foot- valves in irrigation pump sets, 45 per cent of energy can be saved. By replacing inefficient incandescent bulbs by compact fluorescent lamp (CFL)or tubes great amount of energy can be saved while planning a building care should be given for the optimum design of power points. Schemes like improved smokeless chullah, biogas plants, solar heaters etc., are also of great help in conserving energy. By removing waste substances near the mines, are improving the inefficiency of washeries, and modernising the industrial processes and thermal power generation units. Fly ash can be reduced considerably. Fly ash can also be utilized for different purpose like making bricks land /mine filling, construction and other chemical uses.
The loss of energy may also be checked by decentralization of power supply, drawing of more EHT line, efficient T and D equipment, etc.
Conclusion
Energy saved is as good as energy generated. A kilowatt hour saved is just not equal only to a K wh generated; but much more than that, as we consider factors like Transmission and Distribution (T and D) losses. One Kwh saved at the consumer end is equal to 1.29 Kwh generated at the generation end. Common-man’s participation in energy conservation program is thus of immense importance.
