Construction work to begin soon for MCH Bemina Kashmir

Srinagar, October 21 (Scoop News)- The construction of the MCH Bemina, Hospital Srinagar is likely to start very soon as most of the formalities have been completed and the project is ready.  

This was disclosed by the Commissioner Secretary Health and Medical Education Department, MK Dwivedi while chairing the meeting of officers of the department with a non-government organisation- Civil Society at Civil Secretariat, Srinagar. 

Prominent among those who attended the meeting included Mission Director NRHM J&K, Dr Yashpal Sharma, Principal GMCH, Srinagar, Dr Rafiq Pampori, Controller, Drug and Food Control Organisation, J&K, Satish Gupta, Director Planning , MR Mattoo, representative of Deputy Director, Director Health Services, Kashmir and General Secretary and other members of Civil Society.

It was informed during the meeting that soil testing process has been started by the Chief Engineer, PWD, Kashmir for the construction of MCH Bemina and the tendering for the civil structure has been done and process is being completed for the allotment of the works. 

The construction of Paediatrics Hospital is also to be taken up besides the Maternity Hospital on the land identified at Bemina. 

“ Both the hospitals would share common facilities including parking and other support services,” said Mr Dwivedi. 

He further said the process formulation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) is nearing completion and the state government has released Rs 5 Crores as mobilisation fund for the said project to the Chief Engineer PWD. 

Further discussing general working of the Associated Hospitals of Govt Medical College, Srinagar it was informed the Government has given the permission for the up-gradation for digital X-Ray units at Bone and Joint Hospital, Srinagar.    

“ A proposal is also being initiated for banning of private practice among the teaching faculty of the Government Medical Colleges,” he disclosed. 

On implementing Drug Policy, Mr Dwivedi directed the Controller/Director, Drug and Food Control Department and the Director Health Services to start implementing various provisions under the Policy. 

He said, “ A team was recently sent to Rajasthan to study the functioning of generic drug stores. The team shall be putting up their recommendations soon with us.” 

Mr Dwivedi added that the drug procurement corporation and the required drug committees are being worked upon to streamline the system of procurement and availability of generic drugs. 

Civil Society members expressed gratitude to the officers for attending to their various issues and also assured whole hearted cooperation to the Health and Medical Education Department in improving health care in the state.
