Conversion of Narcotic belts into vegetable belts in South Kashmir

Bijbehara/Srinagar,October 18(Scoop News)-As an incentive to convert Narcotic belts into vegetable growing belts, Department of Agriculture shall provide an incentive of Rs. 45,000/- per hectares to such farmers. The incentive shall be in the form of seeds, fertilizers and other inputs or on cash reimbursement basis depending upon the choice of the farmer.

            This was disclosed by Director Agriculture Kashmir, Dr. Farooq A. Lone while addressing a gathering of farmers during Awareness cum Training Camp organized by Farmers Training Centre, Department of Agriculture at Bijbehara and Anantnag today. He directed the officers of the Department to go for door to door awareness of the said scheme. He also requested adults and youth to participate in the programme to propagate the utility of the scheme so that the cultivation of bung is checked. He said that a provision of Rs. 45 lakhs have been kept in the current year’s plan under RKVY for the said scheme targeted at covering 100 hectares of land.

            Dr. Lone said that Imams and religious scholars can play an important role in eradicating the menace of Bung cultivation. He advised the farmers to take the advantage of all schemes launched by Department and co-operate with field functionaries in implementing all the programmes for making the state self sufficient in various food crops like pulses and oilseed.

Chief Agriculture Officer, Anantnag said that the objectives of such awareness camps are to make farmers aware of the latest technology in various field of agriculture and allied sectors.

Deputy Director, Farmers Education Training Centre said that organizing of farmers Awareness camps is continuous process launched by the department so that farmers adopt hi-tech agriculture to boost agriculture production.

Participating farmers give an overwhelming response and also interacted with experts on various issues related to adoption of scientific techniques and agriculture allied sectors.
