THOUGH THE entire media is busy covering the misadventure of a Bihar police constable, now a symbol of police cruelty in the aftermath of Bhagalpur episode, a cop yesterday sullied the image of the police of the multinational city Gurgaon, when he allegedly raped a girl, who had come to file a report in the police station. He has since been absconding.

As per reports, Head Constable Pawan Kumar posted at Udyog Vihar Police chowki allegedly raped a young girl Nisha (name changed) not once but twice. Kumar is absconding since than and case has been registered against him in the police station.

Victim Nisha said that the accused Pawan, who is a head constable at the same police post, first raped her on August 11, after telling her that she had to visit the police post for immediate investigation and, then, on August 13, when he entered her house in Sukhrali, part II.

The girl who belongs to district Bahraich in Uttar Pradesh and is presently living in Gurgaon told that the constable raped her when she had gone to register a complaint regarding the loss of mobile phone in the Udyog Vihar police chowki in sector-18 on August 11.

She claimed that around 11 pm, the accused again entered her home in connection with some investigations regarding the phone. There the situation took an unexpected turn as the constable forcibly accosted her to the nearby bushes and allegedly raped her.

Demanding action against the cop, the girl said that she would pursue the case till the end and ensure that justice is done.

Local police meanwhile said that a case has been registered against the erring constable and a separate departmental inquiry would be initiated against him.

The incident has sent a shockwave among the locals and they have demanded strong action against the accused involved in the case. It is worthwhile to mention that Gurgaon is one of the fastest growing cities in the country where a large number of multinational and big companies have established base and incidents like this send a wrong signal to hundreds of female employees working in these organizations.

The Police department which has the job of protecting people also takes a beating as it loses face due to such incidents, said a local resident, on condition of anonymity.
